Dr Suresh Jain, a distinguished scholar, currently holds the prestigious position of Professor and Head, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at the esteemed Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati (IIT Tirupati) in Andhra Pradesh, India. His profound academic background and extensive professional experience in the realm of Environmental Science and Engineering are marked by notable achievements.
With over 19 years of unwavering commitment to research, pedagogy, and consultancy endeavours, Dr Jain's academic journey has been a testament to his dedication to understanding and solving complex environmental challenges. During his tenure at IITD Delhi, he served as a Professor at the Transportation Research and Injury Prevention Centre at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India, on deputation under the IIT Faculty Exchange programme from May 2022 to May 2023. Additionally, Dr Jain assumed the role of Professor and Head of the Department of Energy and Environment at TERI University, New Delhi, where he imparted his expertise through the delivery of postgraduate-level courses across diverse programs, encompassing subjects such as Air Quality Management, Air Pollution and Climate Change, Environmental Health and Risk Assessment, Integrated Impact Assessment, and Environmental Systems Modelling. Ltd., where he spearheaded environmental consultancy initiatives encompassing urban air quality modelling, environmental impact assessment, sustainability, carbon footprint analysis, and life cycle assessment, has bestowed upon him invaluable practical insights that synergistically complement his instructional and research undertakings.
Dr Jain's scholarly endeavours extend
beyond the confines of academia, as evidenced by his active engagement in
various governmental and international initiatives aimed at fostering
environmental stewardship and sustainability. He serves as a member of the
State Level Expert Committee on Environment (SLECE) for the Government of
Andhra Pradesh since November 2019 and holds the esteemed designation of expert
member of the BRICS Network University on behalf of the Government of India.
Furthermore, he played a pivotal role as the Nodal Officer from IIT Tirupati
for the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), overseeing the
implementation of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) at the state level, a
responsibility bestowed upon him by the Ministry of Environment, Forest &
Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India. He is also associated with the Ford Foundation, USA and Open Society Foundations, UK for International Fellowship program. He is founding member of Global Centre for Clean Air Research (GCARE), University of Surrey, UK.
In recognition of his scholarly achievements and exemplary contributions to the field, Dr Jain received numerous accolades and honours, including the Vice-Chancellor's Faculty of the Year Award in 2017, International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP-Fellow), USA and the Commonwealth Professional Fellow 2016-17, UK; KTP Visiting Fellow-2014, University of Technology Sydney; Role of Honor by TERI-2012-13 and earthian-2013 award by Wipro as a part of sustainability program.
